How to Test Your AI Agent Before Going Live
Last updated: August 14, 2026
Want to try out your AI agent before customers start calling — or just check that a recent change works the way you expect? Here's how to test it.
Call Your AI Number Directly
There's no separate "test mode" — the most reliable way to test your AI agent is to call your actual AI phone number and place a real test order or ask it questions, just like a customer would.
Log in to the Maple portal and go to the Voice Agent tab to find your AI phone number.
Call that number from your own phone.
Try placing an order, asking menu questions, or testing any Knowledge Base entries or coaching instructions you've recently added.
Avoiding a Real Order From Reaching Your Kitchen
Since test calls go through the same system as real customer calls, keep the following in mind so a test order doesn't confuse your kitchen staff:
If you're testing with pay-by-link: simply don't complete the payment. An unpaid pay-by-link order won't be sent to your kitchen or printer (see our Printer Troubleshooting article for more on how this works).
If you're testing with pay-in-store: let your kitchen staff know ahead of time that a test order is coming through, so they know to disregard that specific ticket.
What to Check While Testing
Does the greeting sound right, and is your restaurant name pronounced correctly?
Does the AI correctly answer questions you've added to your Knowledge Base?
Does the AI read back your order accurately, including any modifiers?
If you've set up call transfer, does asking to speak with a person successfully connect you to your handoff number?
If anything doesn't sound right, reach out to Maple support with details from your test call (what you said and what the AI did) so the team can help adjust your configuration.
