Stripe Account Troubleshooting

Last updated: March 23, 2026

If you're experiencing issues with your Stripe account during setup or ongoing use, you're not alone. Stripe integration is a critical part of your Maple account — it powers billing, payouts, and payment processing. This guide covers the most common Stripe-related issues, explains why they happen, and walks you through how to resolve them.

Stripe Login Window Not Appearing During Setup

Symptom: During KYC (Know Your Customer) setup, you expect a new browser window or tab to open for Stripe login, but nothing appears.

Cause: The Stripe authentication window can take time to load, especially on slower connections or when browser pop-up settings interfere. The page may still be loading in the background even though nothing is visually happening.

Fix:

  1. Wait 15–30 seconds for the page to fully load — the Stripe window may appear after a brief delay.

  2. Check your browser's pop-up blocker. If pop-ups are blocked, you'll see a small icon in the address bar. Click it and allow pop-ups from the Maple portal.

  3. Try a different browser (Chrome is recommended) or open an incognito/private window.

  4. If the window still doesn't appear, refresh the page and attempt the Stripe login step again.

Stripe Page Loading Indefinitely or Continue Button Not Responding

Symptom: When creating or connecting a Stripe account, you see a loading spinner on the top bar that never resolves, or the Continue button doesn't advance you to the next step.

Cause: Stripe's hosted pages can occasionally experience responsiveness issues. This is typically a temporary problem on Stripe's end or a browser compatibility issue.

Fix:

  1. Refresh the page and try again.

  2. Clear your browser cache and cookies, then reattempt the process.

  3. Try using a different browser or device.

  4. If the issue persists after multiple attempts, contact Maple Support. In some cases, your onboarding workflow can be adjusted to proceed while the Stripe issue is being resolved.

Wrong Stripe Account Pre-Populated in the System

Symptom: When you access your Stripe settings in the Maple portal, the system displays a Stripe account that belongs to a different location, a closed business, or an inactive account. You may also notice that the connected account cannot receive payouts.

Cause: If your business has had previous Stripe accounts — for example, from a prior POS integration, a closed location, or a different business entity — the system may have automatically linked to the wrong one. This can happen when multiple Stripe accounts are associated with the same email address or business information.

Fix:

  1. Do not attempt to create a new Stripe account to work around the issue, as this can cause further conflicts.

  2. Contact Maple Support and provide:

    • The name of the incorrect Stripe account that is currently showing

    • The name of the correct Stripe account you'd like connected

    • Any relevant details (e.g., "the displayed account was closed in July")

  3. The Maple team can roll back the Stripe connection and re-link the correct account on your behalf.

Existing Stripe Account Detected During Onboarding

Symptom: During payments onboarding, you're prompted about an existing Stripe account rather than being guided to create a new one, or you encounter a conflict because a Stripe account already exists for your business.

Cause: If your restaurant previously set up a Stripe account — whether through Maple, another platform, or directly — the system will detect it. Creating a duplicate account can lead to verification errors and payment routing issues.

Fix:

  1. If you already have an active Stripe account for your business, reuse it rather than creating a new one. Maple's onboarding flow supports connecting existing accounts.

  2. When prompted, log in with the credentials associated with your existing Stripe account.

  3. If you're unsure which Stripe account to use or whether you have one, check your email for any previous Stripe correspondence (from stripe.com).

  4. If you need help identifying or connecting the right account, reach out to Maple Support.

Unverified Payment Method Causing Repeated Stripe Notifications

Symptom: You're receiving repeated payment error notifications or spam-like messages from Stripe. Your merchant setup may also show as incomplete in the Maple portal.

Cause: The payment method on file in your Stripe account has not been verified. Until verification is complete, Stripe will continue sending error notifications, and your Maple billing setup will remain in an incomplete state.

Fix:

  1. Log in to the Maple portal and navigate to your Billing settings.

  2. Re-enter your billing information, ensuring all fields are complete and accurate.

  3. If you use Clover, reconnect your Clover integration — this enables the Pay by Link payment method and can resolve verification issues.

  4. After updating your billing details, verify that the payment method status changes to Verified in Stripe.

  5. The repeated notifications should stop once the payment method is successfully verified.

Business Entity Change Blocking Stripe Verification

Symptom: You're unable to complete Stripe onboarding or verification because your business entity name has changed (e.g., due to a rebrand, ownership transfer, or LLC restructuring).

Cause: Stripe requires that the business entity on your account matches your banking and legal documents. If your business has transitioned to a new entity name, Stripe cannot verify your account until supporting documentation is provided.

Fix:

  1. Obtain a bank letter or official documentation that verifies the entity change (e.g., a letter from your bank confirming the transition from the old entity to the new one).

  2. Ensure the letter includes:

    • The previous business entity name

    • The new business entity name

    • Confirmation from the bank that accounts have been updated

  3. Provide this documentation to Maple Support so your onboarding can proceed.

  4. Once the verification letter is submitted, the team will update your Stripe account and complete the setup.

Note: Onboarding cannot be finalized until this verification step is complete. Plan ahead if you know an entity change is in progress.

Accessing Stripe Through Third-Party Platforms (e.g., Squarespace)

Symptom: You try to access your Stripe account through another platform (such as Squarespace or your website builder) and are redirected to your restaurant's website instead of the Stripe dashboard.

Cause: Third-party platforms that integrate with Stripe may not provide direct access to your Stripe account settings. The integration confirms that a Stripe connection exists but doesn't serve as a portal to manage your Stripe account.

Fix:

  1. Always access your Stripe account directly at dashboard.stripe.com.

  2. Log in using the email address associated with your Stripe account.

  3. If you've forgotten your Stripe credentials, use Stripe's password reset flow.

  4. For Stripe settings related to your Maple integration specifically, use the Maple portal rather than third-party platforms.

General Stripe Troubleshooting Tips

If none of the above scenarios match your issue, try these general steps:

  • Use a supported browser: Chrome is recommended for the best experience with Stripe-hosted pages.

  • Disable browser extensions: Ad blockers and privacy extensions can interfere with Stripe's pop-ups and redirects.

  • Check your email: Stripe sends verification and error messages to the email on file — these often contain specific instructions.

  • Don't create duplicate accounts: If you encounter an error, contact Maple Support before creating a new Stripe account. Duplicates create more problems than they solve.

  • Have your documents ready: For verification issues, keep your EIN, bank statements, and business registration documents accessible.
