Menu Sync Troubleshooting
Last updated: March 23, 2026
When you connect your POS system to Maple, your menu data—including items, categories, modifiers, and pricing—is automatically synchronized. Sometimes this process doesn't go as expected. This guide covers the most common menu sync issues, explains why they happen, and walks you through how to fix them.
Menu Sync Is Taking a Long Time
Symptom: After connecting your POS (Square, Clover, Toast, or another supported system), the sync appears stuck or is taking longer than expected. You may see a blue recycle icon indicating the sync is still in progress.
Cause: Initial menu syncs pull a significant amount of data from your POS, including menus, categories, items, modifiers, and pricing. Depending on the size of your menu and your POS system, this can take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. Clover integrations in particular may take extended time to complete.
Fix:
You do not need to stay on the sync page. The sync continues running in the background even if you navigate away.
Continue with other onboarding steps (such as business verification) and circle back to check on the sync once it completes.
After a few minutes, return to the Menus tab in your portal to verify that your menu data has loaded.
If the sync still hasn't completed after 10–15 minutes, try a manual resync (see below).
Menu Sync Timeout Error
Symptom: You receive a timeout error during menu synchronization, and your menu data does not fully load into Maple.
Cause: This typically occurs when your POS menu is very large. The volume of data exceeds the expected sync window, causing the connection to time out before all items are transferred.
Fix:
Try triggering a manual resync by clicking the refresh icon (circular arrow) at the top right of the screen, near the "updated [time] ago" indicator.
If the timeout error persists after a manual resync, contact Maple support. The support team can perform a server-side resync that handles large menus more reliably.
For future menu updates on large menus, we recommend reaching out to support proactively to ensure a smooth resync.
Menu Shows "No Items" After Sync
Symptom: During or immediately after the menu sync step, the system displays "no items" found, or your menus page appears empty.
Cause: The system is still retrieving menu information from your POS in the background. This is common during Clover integrations and initial setup for any POS.
Fix:
Wait a few minutes—the data is likely still loading.
Click Continue in the onboarding flow if prompted; you don't need to wait for items to appear before proceeding.
After a few minutes, navigate to the Menus tab and refresh the page to check if items have populated.
If items still don't appear after 10–15 minutes, trigger a manual resync using the refresh icon at the top right of the screen.
Menu Categories or Items Not Displaying Correctly
Symptom: Menu categories appear but show only one item each instead of the full list, or some categories appear empty.
Cause: This is typically a portal loading issue rather than a true sync failure. The page may not have fully rendered all menu data.
Fix:
Refresh the page in your browser (Ctrl+R or Cmd+R).
If that doesn't resolve it, log out of the Maple portal and log back in.
Navigate to the Menus tab and verify that all categories now display their full item lists.
If categories are still incomplete after logging back in, trigger a manual resync.
Menu Pricing Not Syncing Correctly
Symptom: Items in Maple display only a base price rather than showing the correct variant or tier pricing from your POS. For example, pizza variants that have different prices in Toast all show the same base price in Maple.
Cause: This is related to how menu groups and pricing tiers are structured during the sync process. Variant pricing configurations in your POS may not map directly during the initial sync.
Fix:
First, verify that the pricing structure is correctly configured in your POS system (e.g., Toast, Square).
Trigger a manual resync by clicking the refresh icon in the Maple portal.
After the resync completes, navigate to the Menus tab, click the Edit button on the affected menu, and check whether variant pricing now appears correctly.
If pricing discrepancies persist after a resync, contact Maple support with specific examples of the affected items and their expected prices so the team can investigate the mapping.
Missing Modifiers After Sync
Symptom: Some modifiers that exist in your POS or online ordering page are missing from the Maple menu configuration.
Cause: Certain modifiers may not transfer during the initial sync, particularly if they are configured in a non-standard way in your POS or are associated with specific ordering channels.
Fix:
Open the Menus tab in the Maple portal and navigate to the modifier section for the affected items.
Compare the modifiers shown in Maple against what exists in your POS system.
Note which specific modifiers are missing.
Trigger a manual resync to see if the missing modifiers populate.
If they still don't appear, contact Maple support with the list of missing modifiers so they can be added to your configuration.
Menu Categories and Items Not Linked in Hierarchy (SkyTab)
Symptom: Your menu items exist in Maple but are not organized under the correct categories, or the AI agent cannot properly navigate your menu during ordering.
Cause: In SkyTab, categories may be created as "departments" but not properly linked to menu items or to the overall menu structure. Without this hierarchy, Maple cannot organize items correctly, and AI ordering functionality will not work as expected.
Fix:
Log in to your SkyTab system.
Verify that each category (department) is properly linked to its associated menu items and to the overall menu structure.
If you're unsure how to configure this, contact SkyTab support and ask them to ensure proper category-to-menu-item linking.
Once the hierarchy is corrected in SkyTab, trigger a manual resync in the Maple portal to pull the updated structure.
Changes Made in POS Not Reflecting in Maple
Symptom: You've updated your menu in your POS system (added items, changed prices, updated channel visibility, etc.), but the changes aren't showing in Maple.
Cause: Menu changes in your POS are not automatically pushed to Maple in real time. A resync is required to pull the latest data. If you use an intermediary system like Stream alongside Maple, both systems need to be resynced independently.
Fix:
After making changes in your POS, go to the Maple portal.
Click the refresh icon (circular arrow) at the top right of the screen to trigger a resync.
Wait a few minutes for the changes to propagate through the portal.
Navigate to the Menus tab and verify that your updates are reflected.
If you also use Stream or another integrated system, ensure you resync on that platform as well so changes are consistent across all systems.
How to Manually Resync Your Menu
Regardless of the specific issue, a manual resync is often the first step in resolving menu problems:
Log in to the Maple portal.
Look for the refresh icon (circular arrow) at the top right of the screen. It will display "updated [time] ago" next to it.
Click the icon to initiate a resync.
Wait a few minutes for the sync to complete.
Navigate to the Menus tab to verify that your data is up to date.
Tip: After any resync, give the system a few minutes before checking results. Changes need time to propagate through the portal.
When to Contact Support
Reach out to Maple support if:
A manual resync does not resolve your issue after multiple attempts
You consistently receive timeout errors due to a large menu
Pricing or modifier discrepancies persist after resyncing
You encounter an error message during menu upload that you cannot resolve
Your POS structure requires backend adjustments on the Maple side
